A quarterback's grip on the football is as unique as his fingerprint. The “HANDS OF THE GODS” collection comes from an idea John Costacos had more than 30 years ago after shooting the Jerry Rice Goldfingers poster in which Jerry’s hands were painted gold. Costacos tells the story: “His hands looked so cool in gold that we actually thought about shooting a second poster of just Jerry’s gold hands holding a football, but we never got it done. When I recently looked through the archives and saw Jerry’s photos again, a light went on in my head. I thought, ‘We gotta get the guys’ handprints on some footballs!’” At that moment, “HANDS OF THE GODS” was born. For this piece, John traveled to Miami to capture Dan Marino’s handprint.
